Plans to establish a new holiday park section at Garton Sundrum Caravan Park in Ayrshire have triggered a wave of objections from local residents. The proposal put forth by Garton Caravan Site Ltd. involves the installation of up to 15 static caravans within the existing premises spanning approximately 1.1 hectares near Coylton. The park, located adjacent to the A70 road connecting Ayr to Cumnock, currently operates with 25 informal touring caravan sites with electrical hook-up points primarily positioned in the eastern part of the area. Additionally, there are communal toilet and shower facilities centrally located along the site’s northern boundary.
According to the application, Garton Sundrum Caravan Park has been a longstanding facility primarily catering to touring caravans and motorhomes. The proposal seeks approval for the placement of 15 static caravans intended for private holiday use, with plans to sell them to individuals for personal vacation purposes. The application clarifies that the conversion involves substituting 12 existing touring pitches rather than adding entirely new infrastructure, thereby diversifying the accommodation options available at the park.
