Karen Dunbar promoter hits back at claims she wasn’t being paid for axed tour

**Karen Dunbar’s Promoter Rejects Payment Claims Amid Tour Cancellation**

Scottish comedian Karen Dunbar has faced controversy following her announcement regarding the cancellation of her highly anticipated ‘Aw Roon the Hooses’ tour. The 55-year-old, known for her role on the hit show *Chewin’ the Fat*, took to Instagram this past weekend to inform her fans that the remaining 20 shows in 2026 would be axed, citing significant issues with her promoter, Breakneck Comedy.

In her social media statement, Dunbar alleged that she had only received compensation for five out of a total of 39 scheduled performances, which prompted her to pursue legal action against the Aberdeen-based company. “I’m gutted to have to tell you this,” she expressed to her audience, explaining that there had been a lack of communication regarding a recently cancelled show. Echoing her frustrations, Dunbar stated, “I can’t go on. The promoter hasn’t been paying me.”

However, Breakneck Comedy has strongly refuted her claims, issuing a statement that highlights their side of the story. The company expressed disappointment at learning about the cancellation through social media rather than via direct communication. They firmly asserted that Dunbar’s payment claims are “inaccurate” and revealed that low ticket sales were a major contributing factor to the tour’s struggles.

“As a small business,” the statement read, “we simply cannot afford to take on the financial burdens associated with organising a 60-show tour, especially when facing a significant loss.” They further commented that they engaged with Dunbar to discuss potential renegotiations regarding her fees but were met with resistance.

As a remedy, Breakneck Comedy plans to revise its payment structure for future tours, shifting to revenue splits instead of fixed guaranteed fees to mitigate losses in the event of lower-than-expected sales.

In her follow-up communication, Dunbar clarified that her 2027 performances in Greenock, Peebles, and Shotts are still confirmed and will be conducted by a different promoter, Punchline Promotions.

In summary, this episode highlights the frustrations that can arise in the entertainment industry regarding financial arrangements and communication. As both sides prepare to navigate this tumultuous situation, fans are left hoping for clarity and resolution.
