Lorraine Kelly Interrupts Show to Announce Co-Star’s Passing
During Monday’s broadcast of her ITV programme, Lorraine Kelly took a moment to share the heartbreaking news of the death of one of her co-stars, Heather Sawyer. Heather was a valued member of the Change and Check Choir, which was established on the show as part of a breast-checking campaign.
Heather, aged 50, had been battling secondary breast cancer. The announcement of her passing was made by her husband on social media on 5th October. Lorraine praised Heather as an “astonishing woman” and highlighted her significant contribution to the choir, describing her as passionate and dedicated.
Dr. Hilary, who was a guest on the show, also paid tribute to Heather, emphasizing her participation in a performance at the Palladium to support the Change & Check campaign. He stressed the importance of self-examinations for early detection of breast cancer, urging women to be vigilant about their health.
Heather’s husband expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support they had received during her illness, acknowledging the love and kindness shown towards Heather in her final days. Heather, who had been under hospice care, left behind 11 grandchildren.
The Change and Check campaign, initiated in 2019, aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote routine self-examinations. Posters from the campaign have been displayed in various retail establishments to encourage women to take charge of their breast health.
Heather Sawyer’s legacy lives on through her involvement with the choir and her advocacy for breast cancer awareness. Her passing serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and support for those battling the disease.
