The American duo, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, kicked off this year’s Nobel announcements by securing the medicine prize for their identification of genetic material fragments that regulate cell activities, potentially paving the way for innovative disease treatments like cancer therapies.
The Nobel Prize in Physics, established by Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, carries a substantial cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1 million) and has been awarded 117 times to date. Recipients will be invited to accept their awards at ceremonies on December 10, marking the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s passing.
