A youth charity based in Blairgowrie has received a significant funding boost to support its work with young people in the area. The Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) was awarded £5000 from Scotmid as part of the supermarket’s Community Connect initiative. This funding is part of a total of £25,000 that has been distributed to several local organisations.
SCYD focuses on providing support to individuals aged 12 to 25 and aims to reduce social isolation, address food insecurity, and enhance the overall mental and physical wellbeing of young people in Blairgowrie. Lloyd Girling, the chair of the charity, expressed immense gratitude for the donation from Scotmid. He highlighted that the funding will enable them to continue offering essential services and maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all attendees.
The charity offers free drop-in sessions year-round, featuring structured activities, workshops, trips, healthy meals, and opportunities for skill-building. SCYD focuses on creating a supportive and connected community for young people to learn, have fun and access resources. Additionally, two other local organisations, Befriend a Child and Camphill School in Aberdeen, will also benefit from the funding provided by Scotmid.
The support from Scotmid will enable SCYD to sustain and expand its initiatives, ensuring that young people in Blairgowrie have access to vital services and opportunities for personal development. This funding boost will play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being and future prospects of the youth in the region.
