Alejandro Garnacho posts statement after Manchester United injury blow

Manchester United’s rising star Alejandro Garnacho has shared a statement on social media following an injury setback that will see him miss international duty with the Argentina squad. The 20-year-old forward revealed on his Instagram stories that he had been playing through a knee injury, particularly evident during United’s recent goalless draw against Aston Villa, and has made the decision to use the upcoming international break as a period for recovery.

Garnacho, who has impressed with his performances for Manchester United this season, had been a regular inclusion in Argentina’s squad. Initially selected as part of the 27-man squad to face Venezuela and Bolivia this month, he expressed his disappointment in having to withdraw due to his injury. In his statement, he mentioned his ongoing knee issues and expressed hope for a speedy recovery to potentially return for the next international fixtures against Paraguay and Peru in November.

The Argentine Football Association confirmed Garnacho’s absence from the squad, citing discomfort in his left knee as the reason for his exclusion. They also announced that Facundo Buonanotte would be called up as a replacement for the October international fixtures. Garnacho’s absence adds to the injury concerns for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who had to make substitutions for Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui during the Villa game. Both Maguire and Mazraoui suffered injuries, with Mazraoui also withdrawing from Morocco’s squad for their Africa Cup of Nations matches against the Central African Republic.

Maguire and Garnacho join a list of defenders at Manchester United currently dealing with injuries, including Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia. Mazraoui’s absence, in particular, presents a significant challenge for ten Hag as he aims to address United’s slow start to the season. Despite the setbacks, Garnacho’s dedication to recovery and determination to return to action will be closely monitored by both club and country as he looks to continue his promising development in the world of football.
