Mick Schumacher’s Future in F1 Hangs in the Balance for 2025 Season
The future of Mick Schumacher’s Formula 1 career appears to be in jeopardy unless he secures a surprise switch for the 2025 season, according to Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko. Marko suggested that Schumacher would need to land the vacant second seat at Sauber (Audi) to continue his F1 journey.
Son of the legendary seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher, Mick Schumacher previously raced for Haas in F1 from 2021 to 2022 before facing difficulties and ultimately losing his seat. Since then, he has been working as a reserve driver for Mercedes, participating in internal testing sessions and competing for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship this year.
Despite facing setbacks, Schumacher remains determined to make a comeback in F1. However, with only one seat left to be confirmed for next season at Sauber, his options are narrowing. Nico Hulkenberg has already secured one spot at Sauber, with contenders like Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Franco Colapinto vying for the remaining seat.
Marko expressed that it is crucial for Schumacher to secure the Sauber seat to have a future in the sport. He emphasised that the upcoming Audi (Sauber) car might not be a winning contender in the next season, alleviating pressure on the driver.
While Bottas is speculated to be the lead candidate for the seat, Schumacher could benefit from his past working relationship with Sauber’s new chief technical officer, Mattia Binotto, during his time as a Ferrari junior driver.
