In Scotland, it is typical to pay around £5 for a pint of beer, according to a study released in April 2024, which revealed that the average price of a pint of lager in Scotland is £4.87, showing an increase from previous years. Louie’s video went viral as he showcased his 40p beer and expressed his amazement at the prices, noting that in London, you would be paying £7 for a beer. The cost of living in south-east Asia appeared incredibly low to him, with his stay, meals, and entertainment costing significantly less than what he would typically spend in the UK.
The low cost of beer in Vietnam can be attributed to factors such as local production, reduced import taxes, and cheaper local ingredients and labour. A popular choice among tourists and locals is Bia Hoi, a type of draft beer brewed and consumed daily, known for its freshness and low price due to quick turnover and minimal production costs. Despite discussions about potential tax increases in the country, Vietnam traditionally maintains lower alcohol taxes compared to many other nations, making beer more accessible to the public.
