Sir Andy Murray has submitted a planning application to expand his luxury hotel, the Cromlix, located in Dunblane, Perthshire. The proposed extension includes plans for a new restaurant and three additional bedrooms. The new 80-cover restaurant would replace the current dining space, The Glasshouse, and would be an extension to the existing Victorian mansion, offering picturesque views of the hotel’s back lawn. The Glasshouse will continue serving as a dining area for afternoon teas and private events.
In addition to the restaurant, three new ground-floor bedrooms will be added within the main building. The current kitchen space will be transformed into an accessible suite and two Cottage rooms. Another bedroom will be constructed on the first floor, bringing the total number of bedrooms in the main house from 15 to 19, with an extra bedroom in the Gate Lodge. The refurbishment of Cromlix in 2023, overseen by Kim Murray, included renovations to all bedrooms and bathrooms, a new bar area, upgraded restaurant, and enhancements to all common areas of the hotel.
General Manager, Barry Makin, expressed enthusiasm for the proposed plans, highlighting the hotel’s success following the refurbishment. The Executive Head Chef, Darin Campbell, has been instrumental in the culinary offerings at The Glasshouse, focusing on local, seasonal produce and receiving accolades for his work. Fergus Purdie, the architect behind the application, emphasised the need for a larger restaurant space, with the design incorporating glass elements to connect diners to the beautiful rural surroundings of Cromlix.
The planning application is set to be reviewed by Stirling Council in the near future. The Murrays’ vision for the expansion reflects their commitment to providing a premium experience for guests, ensuring Cromlix remains a thriving establishment in the local area.
