Gatehouse SWI Members Get Crafty with Annie Kelly
Gatehouse SWI members recently had a delightful time engaging in a craft session led by Annie Kelly from Crocketford SWI. The event, hosted by vice president Catherine, began with a moment of silence to remember the late Molly Holmes, a cherished SWI member.
Annie, an avid crafter, introduced the group to découpage, a crafting technique she had explored while preparing a pot for a Gardening Scotland competition. Bringing along pre-painted pots, paper napkins, glue, and brushes, Annie guided the members through the creative process. Despite the intricate appearance of découpage, the craft turned out to be relatively simple, allowing everyone to participate with enthusiasm.
Members eagerly immersed themselves in the activity, chatting and crafting away in a lively atmosphere. By tea time, the group had successfully completed their decorated pots, showcasing their artistic flair. Following a tea break, Catherine expressed gratitude to Annie for her expert guidance and to Nancy for providing delicious refreshments, including coeliac-friendly treats.
During the meeting, winners of various competitions were announced, and Catherine bid farewell to all attendees, concluding a successful and enjoyable gathering. Competition results included a quiche wedge won by Chris, greeting cards by Yvonne and Chris, and flower of the month by Catherine, Chris, Yvonne, and Kathleen.
The members of Gatehouse SWI demonstrated their creativity and camaraderie, making the autumn meeting a memorable and productive event. The session not only allowed participants to explore a new craft but also fostered a sense of community and shared joy among the group. An enriching experience for all involved, the crafting afternoon with Annie Kelly was a resounding success.
