Two men have tragically lost their lives after being shot dead by a fast-food worker following an argument inside a restaurant in Chicago.
The incident took place at a JJ Fish and Chicken restaurant in Ashburn just before 10.30 pm ET on Monday evening, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. An altercation escalated, leading to a male employee allegedly firing a handgun inside the establishment, fatally shooting two men aged 55 and 56 in the head.
The suspect fled the scene before the authorities arrived. The victims, who have not been identified yet, were pronounced dead at the restaurant. The motive behind the argument and the shooter’s reasons are still unclear, and no arrests have been made at this stage. Detectives were present at the scene early on Tuesday morning to gather evidence, as confirmed by local news station WGN9.
Street pastor Donovan Price expressed the community’s sorrow, calling it a “sad statement for the city” and emphasising the unfortunate loss of two lives due to gun violence.
The shooting incident in Chicago comes at a time when the city has seen a slight decline in murders, with a decrease of eight percent in criminal complaints compared to the previous year, according to data from the Chicago Police Department.
This tragic event follows a recent sentencing in Milwaukee, where one of two men convicted of a fatal shooting at another JJ Fish and Chicken outlet received a 14-year prison sentence with ten years of extended supervision. The convicted individual pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide in August for a shooting that took place on January 1, 2023, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old.
The case in Milwaukee involved the two men entering the restaurant and opening fire on the victim, who returned fire, leading to a chaotic exchange of gunshots. The sentencing for the other individual involved in the incident is scheduled for later this month.
