Grant funding for Renfrewshire Winter Connections community groups programme reopens
Renfrewshire Council has announced the reopening of grant funding for the Winter Connections programme, encouraging community groups and voluntary organisations to apply for financial support. This funding will enable groups to host various activities for local residents from next month until March 2025. Designed as a network of local spaces across Renfrewshire, Winter Connections aims to bring people together during the colder months to combat isolation and foster community connections. Events and activities under this programme are open to everyone, promoting inclusivity and a warm community environment.
A total of £75,000 is allocated for this initiative, allowing local groups to apply for grants of up to £2,000 to cover costs such as energy expenses, food provision, staffing, and cleaning. The funding is intended for groups that can offer a community venue, run activities, or wish to align their existing programs with the Winter Connections theme. However, activities that require participation fees or are one-off events are not eligible for this funding.
Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, the depute leader of the council and chair of the Fairer Renfrewshire sub-committee, expressed her support for the Winter Connections programme, emphasising its role in building community connections and reducing isolation. She encouraged community groups and voluntary organisations to take advantage of this funding opportunity to create meaningful and impactful activities for local residents.
To be considered for funding, projects must meet certain criteria, including being open, free, and accessible to all; offering a welcoming and safe environment; providing refreshments and activities; and connecting individuals to additional services and support. Applicants are required to have a written constitution, a bank account, and a clear understanding of the community’s needs. Successful grant applicants will be announced from mid-October onwards, with funding applications accepted until the allocated funds are fully utilized.
Guidance on the funding application process can be found on the council’s website, and interested groups are encouraged to submit their proposals promptly. Any funding received must be spent by the end of March 2025, ensuring that the Winter Connections programme continues to benefit the community throughout the winter months and beyond.
