Four mayors in Mexico have reached out to federal authorities, seeking protection in the wake of a gruesome incident where a fellow mayor was beheaded in the state of Guerrero last week. The news of the mayors’ plea for safety measures was confirmed by officials on Tuesday.

Following this shocking event, four other mayors from Guerrero and the violence-stricken state of Guanajuato made requests for protection on Monday, as disclosed by Federal Public Safety Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch.
Garcia Harfuch revealed that the mayors submitted their pleas for security assistance a day after the discovery of Arcos’ remains.
