LA Dodgers star pitcher falls victim to theft in California park
Major League Baseball star pitcher Walker Buehler, of the LA Dodgers, recently found himself at the center of a robbery incident at a race horse track in Southern California. The incident took place on September 28 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, where Buehler and his wife McKenzie Marcinek were attending the California Crown horse race. In the midst of a crowd, someone managed to unbutton Buehler’s shirt sleeve and steal his luxury watch. Unfortunately, Buehler was not the only victim of this crime, as another individual also had their watch taken in a similar fashion.
Authorities in Arcadia have reported that these thefts were part of a series of planned robberies targeting individuals wearing high-end watches. The Arcadia Police Department stated that several organised groups of people were operating in the area with the aim of creating distractions and capitalising on the large crowds present at the event. One victim was approached by a suspect attempting to steal his watch while being embraced by another individual. Upon realising the situation, the victims confronted the suspects, who then fled the scene.
In a statement released by Buehler’s agency, Excel Sports Management, it was confirmed that the pitcher had indeed fallen victim to a snatch and grab robbery during the event. Fortunately, neither Buehler nor his wife sustained any physical harm during the incident. Buehler’s agency also mentioned that the matter has been reported to the police and is currently under investigation. Despite the ordeal, Buehler remains focused on his upcoming baseball playoffs.
Following their investigation, the Arcadia Police Department arrested a 24-year-old man named Camilo Nino-Hernandez from Los Angeles in connection with the robberies. Nino-Hernandez faces charges of grand theft and possession of a fraudulent social security card. The case will be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney for further action.
Walker Buehler, originally from Lexington, Kentucky, has a strong passion for horse racing and even holds a micro-share ownership of the racehorse Authentic, trained by renowned figure Bob Baffert. Buehler is scheduled to pitch Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of high-profile events and the importance of staying vigilant in crowded places. Walker Buehler’s experience highlights the need for increased security measures to protect attendees from such criminal activities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
