Outside the court, David Marr vented his anger towards his sister, accusing her of tearing their family apart by her actions. Despite his plea for a jail sentence, Gunn was not incarcerated but was ordered to repay £14,521 to her mother in instalments, a sum her family doubts will ever be fully repaid. Gunn’s abuse of power included transferring money to her own account and making unauthorised purchases and withdrawals using her mother’s debit card and pin number. The family discovered the financial discrepancies in 2020 when Gunn disclosed her involvement in the scam.
Members of the family confronted Gunn outside the court, questioning her about her deceitful actions, to which she simply responded, “I did.” Another family member disclosed that upon uncovering the scam, they immediately informed the police. Gunn’s deceptive conduct was further revealed when she admitted her crimes early in the investigation process. The family expressed their disappointment at the lack of a custodial sentence, attributing it possibly to Gunn’s age.
