At least 18 people, including five children and two women, have died in central and northern Gaza following Israeli strikes, Palestinian officials reported on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in northern Gaza, an Israeli strike hit a family home in the Jabaliya refugee camp, leading to the deaths of at least nine people. Rescue agencies confirmed that two women and two children were among those killed in this incident.
The Civil Defense, operating under the Hamas-run government, shared footage showing first responders retrieving bodies and body parts from beneath the rubble in the aftermath of the strikes. The escalation of violence began earlier this week in Jabaliya, a densely populated urban refugee camp with a history dating back to the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s establishment. Israel’s military forces have initiated multiple operations in Jabaliya in the past, often returning to areas within Gaza following regrouping by militants.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel stated on Tuesday that the successor to the head of Hezbollah had been killed amid the ongoing hostilities. In response, the militant group’s acting leader has vowed to continue fighting in southern Lebanon. The situation remains tense, with Hamas militants holding around 100 captives in Gaza, a third of whom are feared dead.
