Ethiopia celebrated a double victory at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday with Milkesa Mengesha triumphing in the men’s race and Tigist Ketema securing first place in the women’s category.
Mengesha, aged 24, crossed the finish line in a remarkable time of two hours, three minutes, and 17 seconds, outpacing Kenya’s Cyrbian Kotut in a tightly contested race that was decided in the final kilometer. Meanwhile, Ketema, aged 26, delivered a dominant performance in the women’s event, finishing in two hours, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds, more than two minutes ahead of runners-up Mestawot Fikir and Bosena Mulatie.
Ketema’s exceptional time marked the third fastest in the history of the Berlin Marathon, as Fikir and Mulatie completed a podium sweep for Ethiopia, showcasing the country’s strength in long-distance running.
