Glasgow Airport experienced an ‘accidental evacuation’ on Wednesday morning when emergency barriers were mistakenly activated, leading to passengers being blocked from duty-free at around 10 am. An alarm was raised in the terminal, prompting the evacuation of holidaymakers. The incident occurred due to an accidental activation of the fire alarm and emergency barriers. As a result, passengers found themselves unable to access certain areas within the terminal.
The chaos and confusion were captured in videos and images as barriers came down, segregating different sections of the terminal. Fortunately, it was later confirmed that the airport had reopened after the alarm was raised. At the same time, disruptions to flights to Florida were reported as the US prepared for Hurricane Milton. Orlando International Airport announced the cessation of commercial passenger operations at 8 am on Wednesday.
Notably, two flights from Edinburgh to Orlando were delayed, one on Wednesday and another on Thursday, by 23 hours each. In light of these events, passengers faced uncertainty and inconvenience due to the unexpected circumstances. As the airport resumed operations, authorities worked to address the situation swiftly and restore normalcy for travellers.
