Lee Carsley will not risk Harry Kane’s fitness in Wembley clash with Greece

Lee Carsley, the interim boss of the England national football team, has confirmed that he will not risk striker Harry Kane’s fitness in the upcoming Nations League clash against Greece. Kane, who recently celebrated his 100th cap with a match-winning performance against Finland, is nursing a knock sustained during Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Despite receiving clearance to remain with the England squad, Kane has been unable to train with the team due to his injury. Carsley emphasised the importance of prioritising Kane’s health, stating, “Harry’s nursing an injury, a small knock, something that we won’t take a chance with.”

As a result of Kane’s injury, his long-serving team-mate John Stones will lead England as captain for the first time in his 82nd cap. Carsley praised Stones, highlighting his experience, professionalism, and leadership qualities within the squad.

Regarding Kane’s potential involvement in the upcoming matches, Carsley mentioned that while Kane will not start against Greece, he has not been completely ruled out of the game. The manager expressed hope that Kane will be available for selection for the match against Finland on Sunday, but stressed the importance of not rushing the player’s return to action.

With the focus on Kane’s recovery and Stones stepping up as captain, the England squad is preparing for a crucial fixture against Greece followed by another important match against Finland this weekend. Carsley’s cautious approach to managing Kane’s injury reflects the team’s commitment to prioritising player welfare and ensuring their readiness for upcoming challenges.
