Kamala Harris’ Campaign Raises Over $1 Billion Since Entering the Race in July
Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, has achieved a significant milestone in her 2024 election campaign. Since announcing her candidacy in July, Harris’ campaign has successfully raised over $1 billion, marking one of the fastest fundraising accomplishments in presidential campaign history.
In just under three months since declaring her run for president, Harris has secured an estimated $147 million more in donations compared to the total amount raised by former President Donald Trump throughout this year. The surge in funds can be attributed to a rise in individual donations online, with Democratic processor ActBlue noting that contributions more than doubled following Harris’ entry into the race.
The fundraising success of the Harris campaign is indicative of the escalating costs associated with the ongoing election cycle in the United States. Reports from OpenSecrets reveal that the total spending by major-party campaigns, their affiliated super PACs, and other aligned groups has already surpassed $15.9 billion, exceeding the previous record set in 2020 by $800 million.
Although Harris has gained attention for her substantial campaign war chest, she is not the only candidate with notable financial support. Tech mogul Elon Musk, previously critical of Trump, has emerged as a key figure in the election by acting as a campaign surrogate and major donor for the Republican Party. Musk has been actively supporting Trump and conservative causes by channelling tens of millions of dollars through non-profit organisations linked to prominent conservative figures.
As the 2024 election approaches, Harris continues to lead in both voter polls and fundraising efforts, maintaining a roughly three-point advantage over her competitors. The Vice President’s campaign has set a new standard for fundraising prowess, showcasing the immense financial resources being mobilised in the quest for the highest office in the country.
