Scots blogger blags £200 in freebies after penning poems to favourite companies

A Scottish blogger from Glasgow, Andrew Cunningham, has managed to receive over £200 worth of freebies from his favourite brands by sending them personalised poems. The 29-year-old blogger, who runs the money blog Capital Matters, decided to experiment after hearing about a tip online that suggested supermarkets send free gifts in response to poems. He wrote brand-specific poems for 50 of his favourite household brands, including Duracell, Boots, Waitrose, Odeon, Costco, and Yorkshire Tea.

Andrew’s efforts paid off as he received freebies from 16 of the companies he contacted, amounting to over £230 worth of products. Some of his top results included £40 worth of Scrub Daddy supplies, £30 of Odeon Luxe cinema tickets, and £40 worth of Molton Brown goods. Additionally, he received free food and drinks from brands like KFC, Pringles, Richmond, Tunnock’s, and Yorkshire Tea.

Encouraged by his success, Andrew is now working on compiling more poems to send to another 50 companies to see how much more he can receive. He emphasised the importance of personalising the poems and focusing on what he liked about each brand when crafting the verses. He found that a light-hearted and fun approach worked best, especially with companies that have similar marketing styles.

Among the most notable freebies Andrew received were a gift box from Scrub Daddy worth £40 and a selection of handwash and a branded soap holder from Molton Brown, estimated at £40 as well. His creative poems resonated well with the brands, resulting in discounts, free products, and vouchers from various companies.

From a free bag of decaf teabags from Yorkshire Tea to cinema tickets and restaurant vouchers, Andrew’s experiment showcased the power of creativity and a personalised touch in engaging with brands. He highlighted that the poems were meant to be fun and not taken too seriously, yet they proved to be effective in securing freebies.

With a success rate of 32% from his initial round of poems, Andrew’s unique approach demonstrates that a little creativity and effort can go a long way in building positive relationships with brands. He urged others to consider trying similar methods when interacting with companies, as it might lead to surprising rewards and discounts.
