Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, has broken her silence following a series of disputes over the iconic Graceland estate. The 35-year-old star of “Daisy Jones and the Six” has been serving as the sole trustee of the rock legend’s mansion in Memphis, Tennessee since August 2023, after the passing of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley. She also oversees the sub-trusts of her younger sisters, Finley and Harper Lockwood, who are 15-year-old daughters of Lisa Marie from her marriage to Michael Lockwood.
Prior to Keough taking over, there was a disagreement between Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ ex-wife and Lisa Marie’s mother, and Keough regarding the future of the estate. Keough reassured fans that her intention is to carry on the legacy of her mother and grandmother by simply preserving their family home. The Graceland estate, purchased by Elvis in 1957 for £102,500, became a museum in 1982 after his passing in 1977.
In May this year, a company attempted to auction off Graceland, claiming that the estate had not properly repaid a loan using it as collateral. However, a Tennessee judge intervened and halted the auction. Keough labelled the planned auction as “fraudulent” and initiated legal action to prevent it from happening. She alleged that the loan documents were forged, the company involved was not legitimate, and the notary public did not validate the loan.
A representative for Graceland confirmed that the court ruled in their favour, dismissing the claims and ensuring that there would be no foreclosure on the property. Graceland continues to operate as it has for over four decades, welcoming approximately half a million visitors annually who come to pay homage to the music icon. Elvis fans can rest assured that the historic estate remains in good hands, preserving the legacy of one of America’s most renowned musicians.
