Youngsters in Kirkcudbright are in for a treat as they have the opportunity to discover the enchanting world of trees in Barrhill woods. Scheduled for October 14 and 15, children aged six to 12 can immerse themselves in games, storytelling, and crafting activities while learning about the mystical nature of trees.
These engaging events form part of Dumfries and Galloway Woodlands’ half-term activities program, spearheaded by artist and maker Kirsty Harries. Kirsty invites participants to explore the hidden stories within the trees and encourages them to unleash their creativity by crafting their own tales.
According to Kirsty, the sessions are designed for families to connect with nature, get inventive, and appreciate the wonders of trees. The activities will include games, crafting, and storytelling sessions, with a special focus on teaching attendees how to understand and communicate with trees, becoming what she terms “tree whisperers.”
The Tree Tales events have received support from the Kirkcudbright Development Trust and backing from Dumfries and Galloway Woodlands, an organization dedicated to the preservation of trees, habitats, and the well-being of individuals connected to them. McNabb Laurie from Dumfries and Galloway Woodlands emphasized the importance of outdoor activities during all seasons for maintaining good health and fostering a deeper appreciation for nature.
These events aim to equip young people with skills to enjoy and engage with woodlands throughout the year.
