Anna Kendrick has caused a stir by sharing her reasons for not wanting to have kids or cats. The 39-year-old actress first revealed her decision a few years ago, but it has recently garnered renewed attention after former president Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance criticised “childless cat ladies”, leading to backlash from stars like Taylor Swift.
Kendrick, who is currently promoting her new film “Woman of the Hour”, where she portrays the girlfriend of serial killer Rodney Alcala, explained that she does not feel the need to defend her choice. In an interview with The Guardian, she stated, “I don’t ever think about having kids, so I guess I spend just as little time thinking about weaponising that.” She went on to express concerns about the future, mentioning, “any child I had would be another kid that your kid is going to have to fight when the water wars come.”
The actress shared her humorous take on the situation, revealing that the best argument she has for not having kids is falling asleep to the sound of cats on TikTok. She joked about her lack of responsibility, saying, “I’d have an easier time falling asleep with the weight of a cat on me. But I’m not responsible enough to own a cat. Someone should really make a robot cat that does all the purring and the kneading.” Kendrick laughed off the backlash, referring to it as “Anna Kendrick in ‘Doesn’t Want Children’ Shock!”
Notably, Kendrick is set to make her directorial debut with the thriller “Woman of the Hour,” based on the true story of serial killer Alcala. The film depicts the chilling events surrounding the murderer, who appeared on the game show “The Dating Game” and later faced charges for multiple murders. Despite the serious subject matter, Kendrick seems to be taking the criticism in stride as she embarks on this new chapter of her career.
