Dumfriesshire Teen Raises School Funds Through Jigsaw Challenge

Teenager James Peacock from Dumfriesshire is leading a creative initiative to raise crucial funds for Dumfries Academy. The school is in need of £20,000 to purchase new music instruments, equipment, and technology for its Arts and Creativity Faculty. While significant fundraising efforts have taken place throughout the year, there is still £5,000 left to be raised.

In a bid to secure the final funding, S4 pupil James Peacock has taken on a unique challenge called ‘James And The Giant Jigsaw.’ With a goal of completing a 6,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, James hopes to encourage donations towards the cause. The jigsaw challenge has already raised £2,660, with £145 collected within the first 24 hours of announcing the initiative on the school’s Facebook page.

James dedicates time during art periods, lunch breaks, and after school to piece together the jigsaw. The completion of each part of the puzzle contributes to the fundraising efforts for the school. The Arts and Creativity Faculty at Dumfries Academy aims to inspire creative careers among its students and is seeking support to replace outdated equipment and resources.

The school has organised various fundraising events, including an art auction and a Christmas Carols and Coffee Morning scheduled for December 14. The recent funds raised enabled the purchase of 20 Apple pencils for artwork creation on new iPads. These tools will enhance students’ skills in graphic design and illustration.

Looking ahead, the school plans to acquire new guitars and keyboards for the Music Department, as well as cover the costs of tuning and repairing existing instruments. The progress made so far is a testament to the community’s support for enhancing educational opportunities at Dumfries Academy.

As James Peacock continues to piece together his jigsaw puzzle, his dedication serves as a symbol of hope for securing the remaining funds needed to empower students with the best resources for their creative pursuits.
