Eileen Grimshaw of “Coronation Street” is in for a surprise as her ex-boyfriend, Jesse Chadwick, makes his return to the cobbles. Jesse, portrayed by comedian and actor John Thomson on the ITV show, will reunite with Eileen, played by long-serving actress Sue Cleaver, upon her return from Thailand to Weatherfield. However, Eileen will be taken aback to discover that Jesse is not there to see her but is seeking out her neighbour and nemesis, Gail Rodwell, portrayed by Helen Worth.
It will come to light that Gail and Jesse had met while travelling a few years ago and have stayed in touch since. Upon learning about the challenges faced by Gail’s granddaughter, Bethany, with Turkish cosmetic surgery, Jesse decides to pay a visit to his old friend. While Gail is thrilled by his return, her family remains suspicious due to Jesse’s past actions.
Jesse, a children’s entertainer, first appeared in Weatherfield in 2008 and began a relationship with Eileen in the following year. Their relationship hit a rough patch in 2010 when Jesse prioritized a luxury holiday for himself and his parents over treating Eileen with his betting winnings, leading Eileen to ask him to leave. Upon his return, Jesse attempted to pursue a relationship with Eileen’s half-sister, prompting Eileen and Julie Carp to confront him.
Thomson’s return to the show coincides with Worth’s upcoming departure after portraying Gail for 50 years. The actor reflected on Jesse not expecting a reconciliation with Eileen due to his past actions, expressing his happiness at returning to the soap opera after 15 years.
Jesse Chadwick is scheduled to arrive in “Coronation Street” on October 9th on ITV and ITVX.
