Rapper and YouTube star Yung Filly appears in court on rape and assault charges

British rapper and YouTube sensation, Yung Filly, has made headlines after appearing in an Australian court to face charges of rape and assault. The 29-year-old, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was taken into custody in Brisbane and later extradited to Perth, where the alleged incident took place.

During his court appearance in Perth Magistrates Court, Mr. Barrientos was charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, four counts of sexual penetration without consent, and one count of impeding another person’s breathing or circulation by applying pressure to the neck. The charges stem from an alleged sexual assault on a woman in her twenties in his hotel room following a performance in Hillarys, a coastal suburb of Perth.

Despite the serious charges, Yung Filly was granted bail under strict conditions. He provided a personal undertaking of 100,000 Australian dollars (£52,000) and a surety of the same amount. The case is set to be mentioned in court again on December 19.

Born in Cali, Colombia, Mr. Barrientos moved to the UK as a child, settling in London where he gained fame for his music and online presence. Rising to prominence in 2017, he amassed a large following on YouTube with 1.4 million subscribers and around 120 million views. Known for hits such as “Confidence”, “Day to Day”, and “Grey” featuring Aitch, Yung Filly has also ventured into hosting shows on BBC and Channel 4.

The Government of Western Australia has urged anyone with information related to the case or similar incidents to come forward as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, organisations like Rape Crisis in the UK and Rainn in the US offer support for individuals affected by rape and sexual abuse.
