Scots Comedian Janey Godley Targeted by Vile Scammers Amid Cancer Battle
Scots comedian Janey Godley has been targeted by vile scammers as she undergoes cancer treatment. The 63-year-old warned her fans to be on alert after a fake TikTok account of the star surfaced in a bid to “scam” social media users. Despite her ongoing battle with cancer, Janey took time away from palliative to urge fans to be wary. The false account has over 1.9k followers and nearly 10,000 likes, however, it doesn’t belong to the popular comedian who recently moved into a hospice.
Sharing a screenshot of the fake profile, Janey wrote on X: “This is fake on TikTok to scam people.” As reported in Glasgow Live, fans were quick to thank Janey for stepping in. One wrote: “Thank you for letting us know. Surely people understand that you would never ask anyone for money. Just not your way doing things. Please try to forget about all this. Concentrate on being close to your family and loved ones in your room with a view. Lots of love and hugs.” Another said: “Janey, thank you for, as usual, thinking of others. Hope you have a joyous day with family and friends.” While a third chimed “vile”. A fourth wrote: “What an appalling thing to do, taking advantage of people’s generosity like this.”
Janey was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021. The Glasgow comedian cancelled her Why Is She Still Here? tour last month after confirming her cancer has spread having been advised by doctors not to work again. She was presented with the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award last year. The award, Janey says, helps her to deal with her ongoing cancer battle. She was recently cheered up by her pal Sir Billy, who called her from her hospice bed and put a smile on her face with his “offensive” humour and “disgusting swearing.”
