A pharmaceutical firm in Stirling is embarking on a significant expansion of its production capabilities by acquiring a new building in the city. Symbiosis Pharmaceutical Services has purchased the new space to double its footprint across the four facilities it operates in Stirling’s Castle Business Park. This expansion aims to increase the firm’s capacity by 50%, with the newly named ‘Bruce Building’ located near Symbiosis’ existing manufacturing cleanrooms, testing laboratories, and GMP Warehouse facilities.
The move not only ensures the preservation of the current 130 jobs in the city but also entails the creation of an additional 50 new jobs in the life sciences sector. Over the next three years, fit-out work will be carried out to enhance the manufacturing facility. Plans include the installation of two new cleanroom-based production lines to bolster the company’s support for biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients in the development of new medicines and therapies.
Colin MacKay, CEO of Symbiosis, expressed the firm’s commitment to growth by investing £1.75m in the acquisition of a 20,000sq/ft building. The strategic move is part of the company’s continuous expansion efforts to offer world-class sterile manufacturing capacity to clients globally. MacKay highlighted the significance of this operational boost in positioning Symbiosis for sustained growth and delivering added value to clients and shareholders.
The expansion project aligns with Symbiosis’ strategic goals to enhance its market presence in key target regions such as North America and the European Union. The CEO also emphasised that the new facility marks the latest step in the company’s development journey, following previous initiatives like the addition of laboratories and in-house Quality Control (QC) services.
Symbiosis Pharmaceutical Services’ growth plans have received support from notable figures like Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes and Adrian Gillespie from Scottish Enterprise. The company’s future looks promising with the upcoming launch of the expanded manufacturing facility, setting the stage for exciting developments ahead.
