Dumfries Museum will be hosting a fascinating Medieval Murder Mystery event open to all on Thursday from 11am to 3pm. The event combines elements of science and history to offer a fun and educational experience for families. This free activity day will delve into one of the most significant historical moments in the town: the slaying of the Red Comyn in Greyfriars Monastery.
In 1306, Robert the Bruce and the Red Comyn entered the monastery, but only one of them emerged alive. The museum will challenge participants to unravel the mystery of who killed the Comyn. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with medieval characters, listen to their stories, and engage in modern forensic science techniques to help solve the crime.
Activities will include chromatography experiments on ink, examining clothes fibres, fingerprints, and footprints, as well as handling replica medieval artefacts and viewing original objects from the era, including some of the legendary King of Scots’ bones. No advance booking is required for this intriguing event.
