A Scottish grandmother who spent a lifetime chasing the dream of witnessing the Northern Lights has finally seen the spectacular aurora from her own home in Midlothian. Ada Donaldson, aged 62, had travelled around the world in search of the Northern Lights, often venturing to the north of Scotland in her campervan to catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis. Despite a disappointing trip to Iceland two years ago, where she failed to witness the lights, Ada’s dream came true when she spotted the Northern Lights in the sky above her Midlothian residence.
Ada expressed her excitement and disbelief at seeing the aurora borealis so close to home, stating that it had always been her dream. Reflecting on past disappointments, Ada shared her astonishment at finally experiencing the Northern Lights from her own village. Stargazers across Scotland, including areas like Beith, Bathgate, Harthill, and Coatbridge, captured breathtaking images of the aurora borealis. Ada recalled the letdown of her trip to Iceland and her numerous unsuccessful attempts to spot the Northern Lights, despite travelling extensively and hoping for a sighting.
Although Ada had traveled far and wide in pursuit of the Northern Lights over the years, she described the magical moment of finally witnessing the aurora from her own garden as worth the wait. She emphasized the awe-inspiring beauty of the lights, noting that photos could not capture the true essence of the experience.
