Bevan French deflects praise onto Wigan team-mates after Grand Final triumph

Bevan French Credits Wigan Teammates for Grand Final Victory

Wigan’s Bevan French demonstrated humility by shifting the spotlight onto his team-mates following his exceptional solo try that led to Wigan’s Betfred Super League Grand Final win against Hull KR. In a hard-fought competition at Old Trafford, French’s remarkable play resulted in the only touchdown of the game, securing a 9-2 victory for the Warriors and marking their back-to-back title triumphs.

French’s agile move, where he deceived defenders and manoeuvred his way through the robust Hull KR defence in the first half, set the tone for Wigan’s success. Despite his stellar performance, French remained modest about his crucial role in securing the fourth trophy of the year. He emphasised the collective effort of the team, particularly highlighting the team’s strong defence as the key to their victories.

Reflecting on the game, French stated, “The game was so quick, I didn’t get to reflect on that moment. The ball was in play so much, it was just on to the next battle straight away.” He acknowledged the significance of the team’s defensive prowess in clinching important victories in successive Grand Finals.

Wigan’s coach, Matt Peet, not only commended French’s on-field skills but also praised his character off the pitch. Peet expressed his admiration for French’s commitment and contributions to the team, underscoring the collective strength of the group in achieving success. He revealed that the team drew motivation from a pep talk delivered by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, adding an extra layer of inspiration to their performance.

On the other side, Hull KR coach Willie Peters commended his squad’s determined effort throughout the season, acknowledging their resilience and hard work, which were evident even in the face of defeat. Despite falling short against a formidable opponent like Wigan, Peters highlighted his team’s unwavering spirit and dedication, expressing pride in their performance.

As both teams reflected on their journey to the Grand Final, the match served as a testament to the competitive spirit and sportsmanship displayed on the field. Amidst the celebratory moments and reflections on what could have been, the players and coaches alike showcased a deep sense of respect and admiration for the game and their opponents.
