Jennifer Garner apologized to director for her acting the day after Ben Affleck split

Jennifer Garner issued an apology to director Barry Sonnenfeld for her acting performance just one day after finalizing her divorce from ex-husband Ben Affleck. Sonnenfeld revealed this revelation in his new memoir, “Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time.” The Hollywood filmmaker recounted that Garner, aged 52, seemed “a little off” on the last day of filming the 2016 movie “Nine Lives.”

Sonnenfeld shared in an excerpt published by the Daily Mail that Garner had been shuttling back and forth to Los Angeles to support Affleck during their divorce proceedings. He described Garner as a “beautiful person inside and out,” noting her dedication to her family amidst the challenging times she was facing. The director recalled a specific incident on the final day of filming when he noticed Garner’s demeanor was not her usual self. Concerned, he approached her to inquire if everything was alright, to which she candidly expressed her apology for not being at her best, revealing that she and Affleck had decided to part ways.

Upon hearing about their divorce, Sonnenfeld was moved to tears, with Garner providing comfort and reassurance, telling him, “It’s going to be okay. It’s for the best.” The touching moment left the director emotional and reflective on the situation, which left onlookers and even Garner herself taken aback by the turn of events.

In the movie “Nine Lives,” Garner plays the character of Lara Brand, the wife of a wealthy businessman who mysteriously finds himself trapped inside their daughter’s cat. The film was released in 2016, a couple of years before Garner and Affleck’s divorce was finalized. The former couple, who had been married since 2005, share three children together: Violet, Fin, and Samuel. Garner has since been in a relationship with businessman John Miller since 2018.

Despite their separation, Garner has demonstrated ongoing support for Affleck in his renewed relationship with Jennifer Lopez, which has since led to another divorce. Affleck and Lopez first reunited in early 2021 and went on to get engaged for a second time in April 2022, swiftly followed by a wedding ceremony in Las Vegas. A subsequent celebration was hosted at Affleck’s Georgia residence before the couple held a second wedding ceremony there.

Notably, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024, marking the end of their marriage two years after their Georgia nuptials. The separation was reportedly initiated on April 26, with sources citing irreconcilable differences. Throughout the developments in Affleck’s personal life, Garner has maintained a supportive stance, exemplifying grace amidst the complexities of their shared family dynamics.
