Seventy Labour MPs are urging Rachel Reeves to commit to a billion-pound spend on public services ahead of the upcoming budget. The Labour Growth Group, comprising 70 supportive Labour MPs, has penned a letter to Reeves advocating for a significant overhaul of fiscal rules to allow for substantial investments in areas such as schools, hospitals, and transport infrastructure.
In the letter, the Labour Growth Group cautions Reeves against shying away from the necessary tough decisions needed to stimulate investment and foster economic growth. They emphasise the importance of prioritising economic reforms and infrastructure projects to benefit the majority of the population, rather than catering to the vocal minority.
Lucy Rigby, co-chair of the Labour Growth Group, emphasised the urgency of breaking the cycle of low investment, low productivity, and low growth perpetuated by the current government. She stressed the need to bring about tangible changes that align with the desires of constituents across various communities.
