TV chef Si King has shared his struggles following the passing of his Hairy Bikers co-star and friend, Dave Myers, earlier this year. Myers, who revealed his battle with cancer in 2022 and was undergoing treatment, sadly passed away at the age of 66 in February. In a candid piece for The Sunday Times, King, 57, revealed that the recent months have been challenging for him since Myers’ death.
King opened up about moments when he felt like escaping from it all, expressing, “More than once I was on the verge of jumping on my bike and heading into the sunset. Not tell anyone where I was going. Just clear off and never come back. Other times I was raging. Raging at that bloody disease, at God and anything else I could think of.” Despite these tough times, King has decided to reflect on the memories shared with his best mate and focus on moving forward as a way to honour Myers’ legacy.
The TV chef mentioned working on a new anthology of classic Hairy Bikers recipes and hinted at upcoming projects in the pipeline. However, he expressed contentment in simpler pleasures like making bacon sandwiches and playing gigs with his band, emphasising, “But even if I end up doing nothing more than making bacon sarnies and playing a few gigs with my band, that’s fine by me. Happy days!”
Reflecting on the impact left by the Hairy Bikers, King expressed optimism, stating, “I’d like to think we made a little bit of difference, here and there. Just two regular blokes, having a go at beef rendang or apple pie. Hopefully we caught the attention of people who didn’t normally watch swanky cooking programmes on telly.” Despite the loss of his friend, King is looking ahead with excitement for what the future holds, acknowledging the fond memories of their journey together since their first meeting in 1992.
