New Superman actor says he ‘didn’t feel great’ after bulking up for the role

New Superman actor David Corenswet has revealed that he faced challenges after bulking up for his role as the iconic Man of Steel. Corenswet, who was announced as the new Superman in June 2023, shared that the process of getting into shape had its downsides. The first official look at Corenswet in the Superman suit was released in May 2024, receiving a mixed reaction from fans eagerly awaiting the new film set to be released in July 2025.

In a recent podcast interview on Manly Things (Sort Of), the 31-year-old actor admitted, “I didn’t fit into any of my pants.” He described feeling uncomfortable and not at his best due to his body not being accustomed to the significant weight gain required for the role. Corenswet mentioned having to wear 2XL sweatshirts at the peak of his transformation, highlighting the extent of his physical changes.

Despite the challenges he faced, Corenswet shared his journey of losing some weight before filming began, aiming to experience what it felt like to go through such a major physical transformation. Images from the highly anticipated film have been largely kept under wraps, with glimpses of Corenswet’s training regimen shared by his personal trainer Paolo Mascitti, who praised the actor’s dedication and hard work.

In February, director James Gunn announced that the upcoming film, previously titled Superman: Legacy, will now simply be known as Superman. Principal photography has commenced, with filming underway and a scheduled release date in July 2025. This superhero movie marks the first in the rebooted DC Universe overseen by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran.

The cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane. Brosnahan, known for her lead role in the series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, brings her talent to the big screen alongside Corenswet in this new chapter of Superman’s story. The film is expected to explore Superman’s journey of reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as Clark Kent from Smallville, Kansas.

With fans eagerly anticipating the release, the new Superman film promises to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved superhero character, showcasing Corenswet’s dedication and transformation for the iconic role.
