A young father from Shotts has been caught with child abuse material and has been put on the sex offenders’ register. Ross Easton, 27, faces the possibility of going to prison after being found with 4,261 child abuse photos and videos on his phone and tablet. Easton admitted to downloading indecent images and sharing an image with another paedophile at his residence in Kilfinan Place, Shotts. Additionally, he confessed to coercing a young girl into carrying out sexual acts and sending him explicit content, including images and videos, which continued for three years.
The disturbing revelations were made at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where it was disclosed that Easton had been in possession of a large quantity of graphic material, including videos depicting the abuse of babies and young children. Furthermore, police discovered numerous chat logs with fellow paedophiles and a folder containing images of the girl he had been exchanging explicit material with. The court heard that the young girl had felt uncomfortable sending material to Easton and had tried to block him on social media multiple times to no avail.
Easton’s predatory behaviour was finally exposed when the police received information regarding his illegal activities and subsequently raided his residence in September 2023, seizing several electronic devices. The prosecution revealed that Easton, who currently resides in Garrion Street, Wishaw, began soliciting images from the young girl when she was just 12 years old, persisting in his demand over the years despite her discomfort and attempts to cut off contact.
Sheriff John Hamilton has deferred Easton’s sentencing for background reports and a risk assessment, warning that a custodial sentence is being seriously considered. The case serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who exploit and manipulate vulnerable young victims for their own gratification. The court’s decision is eagerly awaited as authorities seek justice for the victims and ensure the safety of the community.
