A 55-year-old Scottish woman has been arrested in Thailand following an alleged drug-fuelled rampage. The woman, identified only as Tracy, was on holiday in Thailand when the incident unfolded at a hotel on Jomtien Beach Road in Pattaya. Hotel staff became concerned about Tracy’s behaviour and alerted the police, leading to her arrest, as reported by the Daily Star. Tracy was pictured in a blue top and a short ponytail, accompanied by armed officers in a police pick-up truck.
Reports suggest that Tracy was found in a distressed state, crying in her hotel room with a jar of cannabis and drug-related items present. Upon her arrest, she reportedly began shouting and acting uncontrollably, according to Thaiger News. A ‘Danish friend’ of Tracy revealed that they had been on holiday for two days and had purchased cannabis to smoke. However, the drugs allegedly triggered unusual behaviour, isolation, and signs of paranoia in Tracy.
Police took Tracy to a local hospital, where it was suggested that pre-existing health conditions, prescription drugs, and excessive cannabis use combined to result in a near-psychotic episode. The exact charges against Tracy have not been confirmed yet, and inquiries have been made to the Foreign Office for further information. Cannabis is categorised as a class five drug in Thailand, the lowest classification level, according to Siam Legal.
The regulations around cannabis and hemp were made clearer in 2020, leading to parts of the plants being removed from the narcotics list.
