A man has been sentenced to a two-year jail term for carrying out a ‘horrific’ scissor stabbing on his friend in East Kilbride. Scott Llewellyn, aged 31, attacked his pal with a pair of scissors at his home in Cypress Crescent on January 7. The victim sustained a serious facial injury, resulting in a lasting scar from the assault.
Following the incident, police officers traced a trail of blood to the location where the stabbing occurred. Llewellyn pleaded guilty to assault leading to severe injury and permanent disfigurement at Hamilton Sheriff Court. In court, Robbie McDougall, the prosecutor, explained that a verbal dispute between the two men escalated into a physical altercation, during which Llewellyn used the pair of scissors to harm his friend.
The court heard that after the attack, Llewellyn and another individual escorted the injured man from the property and left him outside, where he caused a commotion prompting a neighbour to contact the authorities. The victim, who had suffered a significant laceration to his nose, was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
In his defense, Ian Scott, Llewellyn’s solicitor, stated that the incident occurred after a day of drinking, and trouble ensued when the victim was suspected of theft by others present. Scott mentioned that his client expressed remorse for his actions, particularly since the victim was a friend. Llewellyn, who has a history of violence and weapon possession, had been making progress in the community until the sudden loss of his brother in July the previous year, which led him to revert to old drinking habits.
Sheriff Louise Gallacher, presiding over the case, highlighted Llewellyn’s previous criminal record and the absence of alternative sentencing options. Consequently, Llewellyn was handed a two-year prison sentence, backdated to January 8, taking into account his time in custody following the arrest.
This incident serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violent acts, with the victim left with enduring physical and emotional scars as a result of the attack.
