A fundraising campaign has been launched at Charnwood Lodge Care Home in Dumfries to raise £3,000 for an interactive touch screen tablet known as a Tiny Tablet. This device offers a variety of interactive activities designed for entertainment, cognitive stimulation, and social interaction to engage residents, particularly those with dementia or cognitive challenges.
Shona Cameron, the activities co-ordinator at Charnwood Lodge, expressed the significant impact a Tiny Tablet would have on enhancing the resident’s experience. The device would enable music playing, era-specific scenes, games, exercise classes, entertainment, virtual church services, and even communication with families through the screen, opening up a whole new world of possibilities.
To kick off the fundraising efforts, a 500-mile cycle challenge was organised, with staff and residents cycling the distance from Dumfries to John O’Groats. Additionally, a Christmas party is being planned for residents, families, and friends on December 18, with a Christmas raffle to further support the fundraising initiative.
Various prizes have been donated for the raffle, including a tour of Rangers’ Ibrox stadium, QOS family ticket, meat voucher, Dalscone family day pass, Camera Obscura in Edinburgh, Escape Rooms in Edinburgh, tickets to the Royal Yacht Britannia, ToyTown voucher, JJ Currie voucher, golf opportunities, and more. Businesses in Glasgow and Edinburgh have contributed prizes, highlighting the community effort to support Charnwood Lodge.
Shona Cameron encouraged anyone willing to help with a donation, no matter how small, to contribute towards the Tiny Tablet appeal or donate a raffle prize. Donations can be dropped off at Charnwood Lodge or by contacting Shona directly.
