Motherwell Photo Society recently held its first print competition of the season, with members gathering to view and judge the prints submitted. The judging took place during the society’s latest meeting, where judge Libby Smith from Carluke Camera Club provided her scores remotely due to illness. Unfortunately, there were no entries in the beginner’s section, so the focus was on the advanced landscape and general section, as well as the advanced portrait section. Members had the opportunity to give their own opinions on each print.
The winner of the advanced landscape and general section was Linda Greenhill with her piece titled “Trio”. Rodger Shearer’s “The Leap” and Linda Greenhill’s “View from the Vennel” shared second place. In the joint third position were Rodger Shearer’s “Stormy Waters” and Linda Greenhill’s “Red Squirrel”. In the advanced portrait section, Linda Greenhill claimed the first-place spot with “The Chesterfield”, and also secured second and third place with “The Nurse Will See You Now” and “Gym Ready” respectively.
Due to the October school holiday, the club will not convene on Thursday, October 17. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, where club Vice-President Rodger Shearer will present “Chasing the Light”. This meeting also marks the deadline for the second digital image competition of the season.
It was a successful event for Motherwell Photo Society, showcasing the talent and creativity of its members. The competition not only provided a platform for photographers to exhibit their work but also fostered a sense of community and appreciation for the art of photography within the society.
