A tragic incident occurred when a woman was fatally trampled by cows while out walking her dog, an inquest revealed. Rebekah Morris, known as Becki, was on an evening walk with her dog on July 9, 2022, when the incident took place. The 29-year-old had sent a photo to her mother with the caption “cowz” shortly before 9pm during her walk in Littlethorpe, Leicestershire. Concerned when Ms Morris stopped responding to messages, her parents went to the field from the photo and found her injured. Despite efforts by paramedics after a cardiac arrest, she was declared dead at 11.21pm.
Dr Michael Biggs, the forensic pathologist who conducted the post-mortem, informed the jury that Ms Morris’s injuries indicated she had been trampled by a cow. The injuries included blunt force trauma and abrasions to her upper chest and left shoulder, leading to severe internal bleeding from extensive liver damage. Dr Biggs stated that the injuries pointed to a brief incident involving one cow and suggested a forensic post-mortem to rule out foul play. He clarified that there were no other injuries indicating another person’s involvement, all consistent with a livestock trampling incident.
During the inquest, Dr Biggs mentioned finding traces of alcohol and medications in Ms Morris’s blood at the time, but they were not found to be a dangerous combination. The inquest is set to continue over the next five days, shedding more light on the tragic events that led to Rebekah Morris’s untimely death while enjoying a simple dog walk.
