Greggs is set to open its first Champagne bar, where customers can indulge in the finest bottles paired with a menu of bakes and rolls, along with a signature cocktail to round off the experience. The high street baker’s Champagne bar will be located in Fenwick’s Newcastle store and will run from October 24 until the end of December.
Last year, Greggs introduced its first “fine dining” bistro at the same location, which received great acclaim as it served up their famous festive bake alongside duck fat roasties, smoked pancetta, chestnuts, and sprouts to over 8,000 customers in just one month. This year, the menu for the Champagne bar has been curated by Fenwick’s executive head chef Mark Reid in collaboration with Greggs. It includes offerings such as a steak bake paired with a creamy peppercorn aioli, a sausage, bean, and cheese melt accompanied by Bloody Mary ketchup, and a revamped sausage roll with the addition of hot honey chilli sauce.
Customers visiting the Champagne bar can choose from a selection of Champagnes served by the glass or bottle, including Bollinger Rose, Laurent Perrier, and the luxurious Louis Roederer Cristal. The menu also features signature cocktails inspired by Greggs’ popular sweet treats, such as a yum yum twist made with rum and real yum yums, a cream eclair with vanilla vodka and dark chocolate liqueur, and a non-alcoholic peach Melba cocktail.
The bar, designed in an Art Nouveau style, can accommodate 16 customers who can ring vintage crystal bells for a top-up. It will operate on a reservation-only basis from 11.30 am until store closing. Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, expressed her excitement about the unique experience the Champagne bar will offer, stating, “Hopefully everyone who visited us last year, and many more, will enjoy the fun and unique experience that’s been created and discover that a chilled glass of Champagne accompanied by a sausage roll will be the hottest ticket in Toon for 2024.”
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, shared his pride in the collaboration with Greggs, highlighting the aim to provide customers with a memorable and enjoyable dining experience. The success of last year’s Bistro Greggs at Fenwick has paved the way for this exciting new venture, showcasing the evolution of the restaurant offer and unexpected collaborations that Fenwick continues to bring to its customers.
