Dumfriesshire Striders Raise £2,700 for Baby Loss Charity
A heartwarming story emerged as Dumfriesshire Striders generously donated £2,700 to the Dumfries and Galloway Sands charity, supporting families dealing with pregnancy and baby loss. The kind gesture came after a successful fundraising effort during the Edinburgh Kilt Walk by members of the Marchmount Bowling Club.
A group of twelve members from the Marchmount Bowling Club took on the challenging 20.5 miles Mighty Stride of the Kilt Walk. Through sponsorship, donations, and the proceeds from a raffle, they managed to raise the impressive sum. Additionally, there is potential for gift aid to be claimed on some of the cash donations, further boosting the total amount raised.
During the cheque handover, club member Paul Fraser expressed his gratitude, stating, “We’re absolutely amazed at the amount of money we’ve raised. Sands means a lot to us, and we’re so pleased to have been able to contribute to their cause.” The Fraser family, who nominated the charity for support from the club this year, extended their thanks to everyone who donated.
Alison Carruthers, a representative from Dumfries and Galloway Sands, commended the Marchmount Bowling Club for their immense effort, saying, “A huge thank you to Marchmount Bowling Club for such a great effort in raising such a fantastic amount for our charity. This kind donation will go a long way to supporting bereaved families across Dumfries and Galloway.”
