Bookies are offering odds on which Scottish retro rock stars will be the next to reunite their bands following the recent comeback of Oasis. While Oasis has been making headlines, other bands like The Bluebells, Altered Images, and The Soup Dragons are also back in action. McBookie has compiled a list of estranged pop groups that fans are eager to see back together, with Aztec Camera leading the favourites to reform next year.
Aztec Camera, known for hits like “Oblivious” and “Somewhere In My Heart”, were a successful Scottish pop group in the 80s. Frontman Roddy Frame, hailing from East Kilbride, celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album with a tour in 2013. Bassist Campbell Owens, now a lecturer in Glasgow, and other original members are still active in music. Another iconic band, Orange Juice from Glasgow, had a major hit with “Rip It Up” in 1983 but disbanded in 1985. Lead singer Edwyn Collins has reportedly turned down offers to reunite the band.
Cocteau Twins, originally from Grangemouth, faced a split when singer Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist Robin Guthrie ended their partnership in 1997. Despite a cancelled reunion tour in 2005, fans have not given up hope for a comeback. The Incredible String Band, a folk group from Edinburgh, released their last album 50 years ago but have since reunited and toured multiple times, most recently in 2006 with original members Robin Williamson and Mike Heron, both in their 80s.
Paul Petrie from McBookie commented on the potential resurgence of retro bands, noting that if groups like Aztec Camera and Orange Juice reunite, they could easily sell out venues across Scotland. The nostalgia surrounding these bands and the demand for their iconic hits could lead to a revival of the Scottish rock scene.
The rekindling of these legendary bands offers fans hope for more reunions in the future as the wave of retro comebacks continues to excite music enthusiasts across Scotland. Fans eagerly anticipate the possibility of experiencing live performances from these iconic Scottish rock stars once again in the near future.
