Kansas City Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt, has expressed his support for kicker Harrison Butker’s new political action committee (PAC) aimed at promoting what the PAC describes as “traditional values.” Hunt stated that he has no qualms about Butker using his platform to encourage Christians to vote based on these values.
Butker introduced his UPRIGHT PAC during the Chiefs’ bye week through social media posts. The PAC’s website features Butker prominently alongside Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley, who received Butker’s endorsement for the upcoming general election against Democrat Lucas Kunce. The PAC’s mission is to mobilize Christians across the country to uphold traditional values at the ballot box.
Earlier in May, Butker entered the realm of politics with a controversial commencement address at Benedictine College in Kansas. The speech touched on topics such as marriage, gender ideologies, Pride month, and abortion, drawing attention and sparking debate. The NFL distanced itself from Butker’s remarks, emphasizing its commitment to inclusivity.
Hunt’s family has also been involved in political advocacy, as evidenced by their support for initiatives opposing the overturning of an abortion ban in Missouri. Additionally, Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently stated his stance on endorsements in the political arena, opting to focus on encouraging voter registration and independent decision-making.
Mahomes’ comments come amid a backdrop of political statements involving members of the Chiefs organization, including references from former President Donald Trump regarding Mahomes’ wife and her alleged support for his campaign. Despite external political considerations, Mahomes emphasised the importance of community engagement and maintaining a positive influence.
