The BBC has concluded its investigation into the behaviour of Strictly Come Dancing professional, Giovanni Pernice, towards his former celebrity partner, Amanda Abbington, revealing the results after a nine-month probe. The investigation upheld some of Abbington’s complaints, acknowledging instances of verbal bullying and harassment, while clearing Pernice of more serious allegations of physical aggression.
In a statement released on Monday (30 September), the BBC expressed regret for any negative experiences on the show and apologised to Abbington for the issues raised during the investigation. Abbington’s complaints against Pernice first came to light in January 2024, with allegations of misconduct in the rehearsal room. She cited instances of aggressive behaviour and bullying, leading to her sudden departure from the show five episodes into the 2023 series.
Despite facing backlash and threats for speaking out, Abbington remained steadfast in her decision to report the misconduct. She expressed hope that others who may have experienced similar issues will feel empowered to come forward and be heard.
