An Ayrshire family has expressed their disappointment after receiving what they described as an “inedible” chippy supper from a popular holiday camp. Calum Kennedy, owner of Joanna’s Chippy Van, ordered over £30 worth of food from Haven Craig Tara while on holiday there. The order included a regular cod, two sausage suppers, and extra portions of chips. However, when Calum received the delivery, he was shocked by the poor state of the food.
Describing the fish as looking like it had been sitting for weeks, Calum found the food to be completely inedible. Despite owning his own chip shop van business, he decided to try the on-site chippy at Craig Tara for the first time. Disappointed by the quality of the food, Calum shared his experience on social media, calling it a disgrace to the industry.
After showing the pictures to staff members who also expressed disgust, Calum received a refund from the establishment. Over 500 people commented on his Facebook post, with many expressing shock and disappointment at the poor quality of the food. Calum stressed the importance of supporting local businesses that maintain high standards of food quality.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson from Haven Craig Tara apologized for the subpar meal and offered Calum a full refund. They reiterated their commitment to providing guests with a fantastic dining experience and stated that they take complaints seriously. Calum highlighted the double standard between small businesses like his own and larger corporations, noting the disparity in accountability for food quality.
Despite this negative experience, Calum remains supportive of local fish and chip shops in Ayrshire and emphasized the importance of delivering freshly cooked and delicious food to customers. He hopes that incidents like these will lead to improvements in the industry’s standards to ensure customers receive quality meals when dining out.
