Police discovered a substantial amount of cannabis and more than £13,000 in cash during a recent raid on a flat in Bothwell. Hamilton Sheriff Court was informed that the seized drugs were estimated to be worth around £12,500. Darren Dundas, aged 29, confessed to his involvement in the supply of cannabis at his residence on Green Place on November 8th last year.
The court heard that when confronted by police with a search warrant, Dundas openly admitted the presence of approximately a kilo of cannabis, stating, “There’s about a kilo, mate. I won’t lie.” Prosecuting lawyer Lewis Deoy detailed that upon searching the property, law enforcement officers discovered bags of herbal material, weighing a total of 1.564kg, along with equipment such as scales, gloves, and snap bags. Additionally, £13,395 in mixed notes was found hidden behind a skirting board in the kitchen, with Dundas claiming ownership of only a portion of the cash.
Dundas, who had a prior conviction for a similar drug-related offence, appeared before Sheriff Colin Dunipace for sentencing. The sheriff deferred the sentencing until the following month to allow for background reports, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and indicating that all options would be considered. Furthermore, the sheriff ordered the forfeiture of the seized cash.
