Universal will open fourth Orlando theme park next May

Universal Orlando Resort is set to unveil its fourth theme park in central Florida just in time for Memorial Day next year, intensifying the rivalry with Disney in the USA’s theme park hub. The new park, Universal Epic Universe, is scheduled to welcome visitors on May 22 and will feature themed areas inspired by popular franchises such as Harry Potter, Super Nintendo, “How to Train Your Dragon,” and classic monster movies, according to Universal officials.

Karen Irwin, president and chief operating officer of Universal Orlando Resort, expressed excitement about the upcoming launch, stating, “This is such a pivotal moment for our destination, and we’re thrilled to welcome guests to Epic Universe next year.” Tickets and holiday packages for the new theme park will go on sale next week, with a limitation initially imposed on visitors holding multi-day passes to visit Universal Epic Universe only once due to high expected demand. Multi-day ticket holders can choose to visit any of the other three parks – Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay water park – as part of their ticket offerings.

Simultaneously with the new theme park debut, Universal will open the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, adding to the collection of 10 existing resorts at the location. In response to Universal’s expansion, Disney, the main competitor in the Orlando area, also has four theme parks and plans for further growth. Disney officials have hinted at potential investments of up to $17 billion at the Florida resort, with considerations for the addition of a fifth theme park.

As the theme park landscape in Orlando continues to evolve and expand, the anticipation builds among fans and tourists alike for the unique experiences and attractions each park will offer. The competition between Universal and Disney remains fierce, promising visitors a wide array of entertainment options and immersive adventures to choose from in the coming years.
